Most of us were asked when in grade school what we wanted to be when we grew up. I’d be curious how may of us ended up earning a living at what our answers were back then. For me, if memory serves me right, I wanted to be a pilot. Or was it a doctor? Either way, it seems I got a little off course at some point down the line. So here I am, living the dream as a builder, Realtor, restauranteur, and part time (soon to be X) County commissioner!

Any of those were probably a more predictable outcome than I am about to add to my list… as the now interim editor and owner of Monroe Matters newsletter. They say necessity is the mother of invention. In this case, I have prescribed myself the perfect way to stay involved in my community and in politics after leaving the Commissioner’s office! So welcome to Monroe Matters: a monthly publication which will be solely centered on Monroe County and the topics that our community finds important. Let me say from the get-go…this is NOT a newspaper and not intended to be a source for late breaking news. We do not plan to directly compete with The Monroe Reporter.

Our goal is to be an alternative voice and venue for creating meaningful public discussions and for building our community up. To that end, we have acquired the management of the (formerly) Forsyth/Monroe Nuze page on Facebook. We intend to turn that page into means of promoting ourpaper, our advertisers, and increasing constructive dialogue within our community. There will be NO SUGAR COATING. But, we are going to stick to a high standard for ensuring facts andreal news are published in our community.

Now, here’s what I need from you!!! Do you have an idea for a great story? Please send them! Do you wish to help us write some great stories? Please get in touch with us! Are you looking for this type of outlet to market your goods/services? Please let us know so we can tell you all about the opportunities we hope to create for you to grow! Lastly, I just want to say thank you to those who have encouraged me to take this plunge. I look forward to serving you in this new and exciting way!
