“When I’ve gone the last mile of the way,” – Sam Cooke.
For the MC Wolves, the last mile of the way is literal and closer to 1400 miles.
In our previous Monroe Matters article, we celebrated the team’s early-season success: three championship wins in one weekend, bids to national qualifiers, and the surge of support from schools and families across Thomaston, Forsyth, Jackson, Macon, and beyond.
In that article I asked, “how many miles does it take to make three champions?” The answer was only 150 but since then, the road has only grown longer and the costs higher with their last two major tournaments making up a daunting 1400 miles.
The first of these two tournaments is the Memorial Day Classic in Panama City on May 24th and 25th and in July the Wolves plan to close out their season at the YBOA Boys National Championship in Orlando, Florida.
The coaches say, “traveling is not easy nor cheap.” From Airbnb’s to sprinter vans to food on the run, things start to add up.
The Wolves organization is now seeking help from their community to get these boys the last mile of the way.
Their goal is $5000 to help cover travel and lodging costs so that every athlete has the chance to participate in this final chapter.
These players are not just playing basketball, they are building discipline, confidence, brotherhood, and memories that will last a lifetime.
If you want to help get them across the finish line, there are several ways you can show your support.
One option is to donate to the team directly through Venmo or Cashapp.
Venmo: @MC-Wolves
Cashapp: $MCWOLVES
