Community Guest Day was a very special occasion. The members of the Forsyth New Life Mission Church took the opportunity to recognize several community-based organizations which provide much needed, valuable services that positively impact the lives of the citizens of Monroe County. Each one plays a crucial role in supporting the community. Their tireless efforts help to ensure that the residents of Monroe County have access to essential services and opportunities for growth and well-being.

The recognition offered by Forsyth New Life Mission serves as a reminder of the power of collective effort and the importance of celebrating those who work selflessly to uplift others.
Among the honored guests was Mayor Eric Wilson of the City of Forsyth. He is no stranger to the Mission as he was there to welcome the group to Forsyth on the first day it gathered more than four and a half years ago. Mayor Wilson took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the work the Mission has been do- ing in the Forsyth community.
He stated, “On behalf of the City Council, I accept this recognition and thank you for the work you have been doing to serve the Forsyth community.”
Undoubtedly, part of the work to which the mayor was referring was the Mission participating in the Annual Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway sponsored by the Methodist Church of Forsyth. Dr. Jill Lancaster, Coordinator of that program, received the recognition award on behalf of her pastor, Richard Jelley, and the members of her church. Uniting with several individuals and organizations, the Forsyth Methodist church feeds over seven hundred residents on Thanksgiving Day, many of whom would not have otherwise had a meal for the holiday.
Others also shared their appreciation for the recognition they received. In her acceptance remarks Diane Harbin, Director of Anchor of Hope Foundation, talked about her passion for servicing the needs of autistic individuals. That passion she remarked grew out of her own experience with her 26-year-old son, Jocob, who has been challenged with that condition.
One of the big blessings of the day was that of Lloyd Strickland, Chairman of the Board of the Pregnancy and Family Life Center, discovering that he was a distant relative of Pastor John Strickland of the Macon Wimbish church, a sister church of the Forsyth New Life Mission. Their joy and mutual appreciation were contagious. In his acceptance remarks Roger shared with us how the Pregnancy and Family Life Center saved the lives of seven precious babies who perhaps would not have had a chance at survival had not the center intervened.
He stated, “We strive to develop a close professional relationship with those we serve and assess the situation carefully to support each client’s emotional and spiritual needs during the challenges of an unplanned pregnancy, those of parenthood, or in making an adoption plan”.
Another organization recognized for its service to the community is Reconciliation House. Founded and headed by Angela Johnson, the organization is faith based and takes a holistic approach to recovery from life controlling problems, and preparation for successful living. It caters to the children of incarcerated parents. Through Reconciliation House the youth receive a unique blend of discipleship, spiritual enrichment, class work and life skills training.
Also recognized is Circle of Care/ Community Care Council Inc. Its work of helping people in Forsyth has been ongoing for over three decades. The organization provides assistance with food, utilities, rent and other aspects of life that are essential.
Mark Stevens, the current director, expressed his appreciation for being recognized for the work his organization does.
“We are very appreciative for you recognizing us as we continue to serve the people of Monroe County through the several ministries we offer,” he said.
Rod Callahan, accepting the recognition award for the Monroe County Ministerial Association not only expressed his appreciation on behalf of the organization, but shared his heartfelt desire for increased unity and cooperation for the spiritual health of the community.
A sister organization, Monroe County Ministerial Alliance, was likewise recognized and was represented by its president, Pastor Rufus Whatley.
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the organizations recognized, and many others not present, are often forgotten. The services they provide and the impact they have on our community are invaluable.
The Forsyth New Life Mission church simply wanted to say, “Thank you for the lives you touch and the positive difference you make in the community”.
