There was excitement in the air and sneakers pounding the pavement as Katherine B. Sutton Elementary School held its 11th annual Sutton Silo Sprint—an event that has become a cherished tradition in the Forsyth community.

Started in 2012 by teacher Peggy Trammell, Coach Jason Morrow, and former principal Alicia Elder, the Silo Sprint is more than just a race. It’s a celebration of health, school spirit, and the strength of community. This year’s event, held on the school grounds, once again brought students, parents, teachers, and volunteers together for a morning of energy and encouragement.
“The Sutton Silo Sprint was a fantastic success,” said Assistant Principal Thiago Aleixo, Ed.S. “We had incredible participation from our students and an amazing turnout from parents and the entire community. It was inspiring to see everyone come together to support fitness and celebrate our school spirit and continuous tradition.”
The half-mile course is no easy feat, especially for young runners, but students from pre-k through fifth grade gave it their all—cheered on by classmates, staff, and proud family members lining the course.

“It was fun trying to win first place,” said one of the 2nd grade participants. “Even though I didn’t win this year, I’m still proud of my placement and excited to try for first again next year!”
Organized by Coach Stephens, Coach Morrow, and a team of dedicated staff, the event was a true team effort from start to finish.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) also played a big role, providing water for the runners and helping coordinate parent volunteers who made sure every child felt encouraged and supported.
This year’s winners showed grit, determination, and a whole lot of heart:
Kindergarten: Meri Kate Warren & Xavier Davis
First Grade: Nora Phillips & Princeton Allen
Second Grade: Abri Weaver & Smith Hardin
Third Grade: Jamaica Monson & Knox King
Fourth Grade: Jaziyah Banks & Lucas Mullin
Fifth Grade: Rylee Miller & Brayden Suiter
Each student who crossed the finish line—whether first or last—walked away with a sense of pride and accomplishment, showing that the real victory lies in participation, perseverance, and school unity.
